New drivers sample Carrera Cup GB

Ten drivers took the opportunity to drive a Porsche 911GT3 Cup car at Silverstone yesterday (Wednesday 21 October) during the Porsche Carrera Cup GB sampler session. The drivers, all of them new to the Carrera Cup GB, took part in an exclusive three-hour session on the Silverstone National circuit as they consider their options for the 2010 season. In addition, FF1600 racer pat Blakeney took to the track in a 911GT3 Cup car having won the inaugural Ian Taylor Trophy Race for Formula Ford 1600, which was held at Thruxton on Sunday 28 June. The race honoured the memory of Ian Taylor, who raced FF1600 at Thruxton in the late 1960s and early 1970s before climbing further up the single-seater ladder during a very successful career. His son James is the manager of the Porsche Driving Experience Centre and did some FF1600 racing himself in the early stages of his racing career. James was also able to sample the 911GT3 Cup car during the test day."I've only ever raced single-seaters," said Blakeney after taking his prize drive. "Driving the Porsche was great fun and thoroughly enjoyable. It was very predictable and it certainly ticked another box for me."The final driver to take to the track was Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher. He has played the character of Andy Sugden since 1996 in the long-running soap and harbours an ambition to break into motor sport at some point.
