Matech GT Vice-Champions in FIA GT3 European Teams’ Championship

After winning the European Teams Championship title in 2008 in the FIA GT3 European Championship the Matech GT Racing team has reached another excellent result in 2009 by finishing as Vice Champions. At the season finale at Zolder, Belgium, the German-Brazilian pair of Thomas Mutsch and Walter Salles claimed a sixth place in the number 1 Ford GT3 in the first race. The second car with Christian Mamerow and Eric de Doncker completed the first race in eleventh place and finished the second race on the podium in third position. As a result the Swiss team clinched the runner-up spot in the FIA GT3 European Teams Championship in 2009. "Both of the cars in our team have again scored important points this weekend and therefore have reached the Vice-Champion title for Matech GT Racing team,” explains Martin Bartek, Team Owner and Principal of the Matech GT Racing team. "This successful result makes us very proud. I was pleased to see that two Matech-built Ford GT3’s were able to claim a podium in each of the two races at Zolder, although only one of them was ours. The sister car from the Fischer Racing team with Christopher Nygaard and Florian Gruber at the wheel finished third in the first race. Unsettled weather conditions unfortunately didn’t help the drivers to achieve better results.”Martin Bartek looks back with mixed feelings over the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship season: "Quite a few things still need to be improved in the team’s work and preparation. The development of the Ford GT1 has also probably taken away some of the focus that should have been dedicated to the FIA GT3 Championship.” However, Martin Bartek is optimistic about the future: "Nevertheless, I’m convinced that as of next year we’ll be ready to take the challenge of successfully competing in the FIA GT1 World Championship.”
