Fujitsu General has renewed its title sponsorship of Australia's V8 Supercar Series, the feeder series to the V8 Championship Series, until at least the end of 2011.
"It’s great that Fujitsu, along with V8 Supercars, recognises the importance of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series; a fantastic breeding ground for our future V8 Supercar drivers," said V8 Supercar Australia executive chairman, Tony Cochrane.
"The Fujitsu Series’ track record as a proving ground for the Championship Series speaks for itself, with many of the current V8 Supercar drivers having graduated from the Fujitsu Series ranks. On top of this, few of the current Fujitsu Series drivers show the potential to soon step into the top-tier V8 Supercar ranks."
2003 Fujitsu Series Champion and current V8 Supercar driver, Mark Winterbottom emphasised the importance of the Fujitsu Series.
"The Fujitsu Series is the only category now that you can go to get the experience to get into the main game. The V8 Supercar Championship Series is so cut-throat that, if you don’t have any V8 Supercar experience, you don’t last. The Fujitsu Series is the only category now that you need to race in to become a V8 Supercar driver.
"Once I got the results in the Fujitsu Series, it gave me the credibility to get into the main game and eventually to Ford Performance Racing."
2010 will mark the 10th anniversary of the Fujitsu Series.
