2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am 1 Champion Glynn Geddie will make a surprise one-off switch to single-seaters as he prepares to compete in the Walter Hayes Trophy this weekend.
The Aberdeen-born ace, who clinched top honours in the Carrera Cup's Pro-Am 1 category at Brands Hatch earlier this month, will campaign a Formula Ford 1600 Van Diemen RF92 - prepared by the same team that enabled him to lift his title, Team Parker Racing. The Leicester-based concern will also enter a car for Geddie's Porsche Carrera Cup GB team mate, Tom Bradshaw, in the event.
Since the first of its annual showings in 2001, the Walter Hayes Trophy has provided spectators with some action-packed racing, and features a knock-out format for the Formula Ford 1600s and the 100 plus entrants.
Last year Apex Tubulars-backed Geddie took part in his first Walter Hayes Trophy, getting through to the semi-finals before a gearbox failure ended his weekend, but is hoping that he and his team can go one better and make it through to the finals this time around.
"The Walter Hayes is a mega event and I really enjoyed it last year, although we were a bit unfortunate in the semis", explains Geddie. "Although we are going there with the intention of doing our best, we don't have a lot to lose and we'll be having a bit of a laugh along the way, but I'm aiming to get to the final.
"It's obviously a completely different discipline to driving the Porsche, and some of the guys have been in the cars all season while there are also a few are Formula Ford veterans out there so it will be a challenge. However, the team have proved this year that it gels and works well together so we'll see what happens."
Heat 3's 10-minute qualifying session on Saturday will see Geddie take to the track at 9.40 with the race scheduled to take place at 13.10. The cars that make it through the heats will be promoted to the knock-out stages on Sunday.
