Porsche Carrera Cup GB enjoys record TV season
The 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB has enjoyed record levels of TV coverage, with 11 races broadcast live and a total live audience of up to 13.8 million viewers. In addition, a total audience of 6 million viewers watched Carrera Cup GB highlights in the Motorsport UK series.The championship enjoyed superb race day coverage within the extensive BTCC programmes on ITV4, with 11 races broadcast live and a further four races recorded and shown on the same day to an average audience of 1.38 million viewers per programme. This alone delivered a total of 10 hours of race day coverage for the Carrera Cup.By the end of the year, 15 of the season's 20 Carrera Cup races will have been shown in the Motorsport UK series, which first runs on ITV1 and is then repeated twice on ITV4 and also shown on Men and Motors. This produced a total of 26 hours of TV, with a total audience of 6 million.The overall 2009 season TV statistics for the Carrera Cup are hugely impressive, with 36 hours of broadcast and a total audience of 19.8 million viewers.But it was not just on television that the BTCC race meetings attracted massive audiences. Across the 10-event season, a total of 325,000 fans witnessed the action at close quarters and the Brands Hatch final attracted a huge 35,000-strong crowd to make it a record season for the Carrera Cup GB.
