LEGENDARY Californian Kelly Moran is recovering in a Californian hospital after suffering serious illness.Moran, a massive favourite with British fans throughout his glittering career which included spells at Eastbourne, Sheffield, Swindon, Birmingham and Belle Vue, has been having breathing problems.He was in intensive care over the weekend but reports suggest the 49-year-old has made an encouraging improvement over the last two days.Former USA team-mates Dennis Sigalos, Bobby Schwartz, Bruce Penhall and his brother Shawn have all visited him.

SCUNTHORPE team boss Richard Hollingsworth is backing his side for a successful season at Premier League level.The Scorpions, who have one of the best tracks for entertainment in the country, are keen to match it with silverware.Said Hollingsworth: "I'm very excited about the upcoming season and have high hopes for the Scorpions."I think we have an outstanding set of riders to represent the club and can't wait for battle to commence in seven and a half weeks."
(SPEEDWAY 3)TRIPLE World Champion Nicki Pedersen will be one of the star names appearing in the season-opening Ben Fund Bonanza at Rye House on March 14.The Danish ace does not race regularly in the UK but still lives in Stevenage and will be making his first-ever appearance at Hoddesdon.Pedersen said: "I am very aware of what the Benevolent Fund is, and I am very pleased that I can fit it in this season. "Everyone is riding so that we can raise money for the injured riders, but it will be a tough meeting to have as my first of the season. But I think it will be the first one for Leigh (Adams), Jason (Crump) and the others as well."Obviously it would be nice to win it but it is more important to raise money for the charity." (SPEEDWAY 4)LAKESIDE'S Paul Hurry is relishing his return to Purfleet this season - and says he will be at peak fitness for the start of the campaign.Hurry has been dogged by serious arm injuries over recent years but this is his first winter without an operation since 2003.He said: "I'm probably fitter and stronger now, and better prepared physically, than I've ever been before a season starts. "I want to enjoy my speedway, stay injury free, and get back to winning races home and away. I'd like to do my bit to ensure that The Hammers hit the all-important play offs - that's a minimum target. "The Hammers fans have always been really good to me - even when I came back as an opposition rider last year. They've supported me through some really tough times, and now I have an opportunity to repay some of that support."
