TRIBUTES are pouring in for Rob Woffinden who finally succumbed to illness on Saturday morning.The former Scunthorpe rider and father of new Grand Prix star Tai had been battling cancer for a year.Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: "It's such a sad loss. Rob was such agood guy. You couldn't fail to like him and he will be sadly missed by so many."The Woffinden family have been an important part of Scunthorpe Speedway since the seventies when Rob used to go help prepare the track at Quibell Park. All of us are thinking of Sue, Tai, Cynthia and the rest of the family at this terribly sad time."Meanwhile Sheffield promoter Neil Machin admits he has lost one of his best friends.He said: "Rob is a hero, he has been an inspiration to so many friends and family both here in the UK and his other home in Australia."Whilst this is devastating news Rob has worked so hard to prepare everyone and encourage them to plan ahead which is testimony to the brave character of the man, he will be sorely missed."On a personal note I have lost one of my best friends."

BUXTON'S National League team plans have been boosted by the signing of local hero Adam Allott.Allott will be 27 when the season starts and first rode for the Hitmen in 1998 but has since had spells with Sheffield and King's Lynn at Premier League level. Hitmen co-boss Jayne Moss said: "The signing of Adam is good news for us all and his experience will be invaluable for the younger riders like Nick Morris."

KING'S Lynn have added a British Semi-Final to their fixture list for the new season.The event, with the top eight qualifying for the British Final, will takep lace on Wednesday, May 12.Great Britain boss Rob Lyon said: "This kind of meeting could well put arider in my thoughts for the national squad, as well as the importance of the national championship. It should be a good night of racing."

SOMERSET have confirmed they will stage the Premier League Pairs Championship for a fourth successive season.The Oak Tree Arena will play host to the Super 7even event on Friday, July 9- the night before the British Grand Prix in Cardiff.Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock said: "It's a massive honour for the club tobe awarded the meeting once again."It also underlines how fair our track is when you consider Somerset have never won it in the time we've staged it!"
