Crockards Supercross success

PBM Kawasaki rider Gordon Crockard completed his final round of the British Supercross Championship at London's spectacular O2 Arena on Saturday evening and as well as being crowned British Champion, he was also runner-up in the International Event.

Riding the Kawasaki KX250, the Ulsterman put in a superb final performance at one of the world's best arenas to host the Future West International Supercross Championship in front of an estimated crowd of 10,000.

Having won the British Open heat, Crockard had a surprisingly bad start in the final and had to fight back from almost last to secure a frustrating fourth place behind Joe Dark, but despite this, it was enough to claim first place in the championship overall. Another lap on the deep rutted, technical circuit would have seen the Ulsterman on the podium but he rode a smart race, knowing what he needed to achieve to be crowned the champion.

Crockard, on his KX250, got a good jump off the gate in the International Event final and rounded the first turn in second place. He held this position pressuring race winner, Heath Voss, for the entire race. He resisted the ongoing battle from eventual International Champion, Colton Facciotti, to finish his Supercross series in a well deserved second place and second in the Championship series overall.

In their opening off-road year, the newly-partnered Kawasaki Paul Bird Motorsport team have achieved an impressive second place in the World Enduro Championship and a victorious first place in British Supercross Championship.

Gordon Crockard:  "This was a great event to finish my first Supercross season on the Kawasaki KX250. Racing at the O2 is something else and the buzz in the stadium made it even more enjoyable to win the British Championship. I would like to thank my sponsors who gave me the tools to get this championship won. Firstly I would like to thank the Paul Bird Motorsport team, Kawasaki UK, No Fear, Bridgestone, Oakley, Gaerne and Leo Cordingly who prepared my bike. I now look forward to the opening round of next year's championship which will start at Belfast in the Odyssey Arena. I will be proud to be able to run the #1 plate in front of my home town fans."

Paul Bird:  "I needed my arm twisting when I was asked to support the Enduro and Supercross championships as we have our hands pretty full already running our two-rider World Superbike team. But I'm glad that my team have yet again shown their diversity and showcased our success in two-wheeled motorsport. The Supercross job came about as I wanted to give Gordon a chance, as he is an old mate of mine, after his career threatening injury at the beginning of last year and it's great to see how well he can still ride a motorcycle. When he finished second in the International he showed that he's still a world class rider. I'm over the moon that he won the British Championship and I wish him nothing but success for his future riding career."
