Multiple one-make championship winning team JHR Developments is delighted to officially confirm its expansion into the refreshed Ginetta G40 Championship for 2010 after signing race winner Jake Hill to lead its planned two-car assault on the category.
The Dronfield-based team has enjoyed a huge amount of success in every series it has competed in over the last 16 years and with the move into Ginetta G40 this year, JHR will field squads in no less than three of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship’s support classes – Porsche Carrera Cup GB, ELF Renault Clio Cup and, of course, Ginetta G40.
Attracting Hill to its G40 ranks marks a major coup for JHR ahead of its maiden season in the category formerly known as the Ginetta Junior Championship. The Kent teenager cemented his status as a potential champion last year with three superb wins during a budget restricted campaign.
Hill, who resides in Goudhurst and celebrates his 16th birthday on Monday, 22nd February, exploded onto the car racing scene during the Ginetta Junior Winter Championship at the end of 2008 where he led only his third ever race and went on to claim a maiden podium with a fine third place finish.
Although only able to contest 12 of the 20 rounds in Ginetta Junior last year, Hill was regarded as perhaps the fastest driver in the series. Alongside his hat-trick of race wins – two of which coming during the season finale at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit following a lengthy eight race lay off – he secured two more podiums, five fastest race laps and five pole positions.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have secured Jake to lead our new Ginetta G40 squad this year, he’s undoubtedly going to be one of the front-runners”, said JHR team principal Steven Hunter, “Ginetta G40 is clearly going to be as competitive as ever but we’re confident we’ll be able to hit the ground running and mount a sustained championship challenge throughout the year.”
With Hill officially confirmed JHR is now seeking at least one more driver for its Ginetta G40 squad and Hunter is keen to hear from established Ginetta Junior competitors as well as championship newcomers and karting graduates.
He added: “Our aim is to field at least two cars for our first season so we’re welcoming approaches from any other drivers interested in joining JHR. Having Jake onboard is a huge bonus and a major boost for the team. The coming year promises to be a very exciting one for JHR, we can’t wait for the season to begin.”
The 2010 Ginetta G40 Championship will begin over Easter weekend, 3rd/4th April, at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire and will reach a conclusion six months later at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent on 9th/10th October.
