LOU Sansom, Workington's first speedway superstar, is jetting 24,000 milesto be a special guest at the Comets 40th anniversary meeting on March 27.The popular Australian rode in Workington's very first meeting and will beone of three riders who faced Berwick that night who will be attending the celebrations - Ian Armstrong and Reg Wilson are the others. Comets boss Ian Thomas said: "There are really two legends as far asWorkington speedway is concerned. Carl Stonehewer certainly from the secondera, and definitely Lou from when we first launched in 1970."

SHEFFIELD are confident their track will be ready in time for the team to gothrough their paces next week.The Tigers are due on track next Thursday, March 11, for a press andpractice session before their opening night clash with Belle Vue on March18.Sheffield boss Neil Machin said: "The weather has improved this week andwe're very confident the boys can have a spin next week. We needed animprovement because it's been a dreadful winter and there's always lots of work needs doing at this time of year for every club."The team will meet the press and supporters at 3.30pm with track action starting an hour later.
