The GT Open, which caters for GT2-spec machinery in its ‘Super GT’ class and GT3 cars in its ‘GTS’ category, has become one of Europe’s best GT-racing series over recent years and has attracted some of the continent’s top teams. The 2009 season saw packed grids of Ferraris and Porsches in Super GT and Aston Martin DBRS9s, Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs, Ferrari 430 Scuderias and Lamborghini Gallardos in GTS, with more models, such as the Audi R8, Ford GT, BMW Alpina and Mosler MT900 set to join the field on a regular basis this year.
With teams of the international standing of IMSA Performance Matmut, EdilCris, Autorlando Sport, CRS Racing, Villois and Kessel Racing all taking part and races in six European countries at famous circuits such as Imola, Spa, Monza and Brands Hatch on the calendar, the International GT Open has rightly gained in prestige in the past couple of years.
Frederic Viger, Motors TV’s Head of Programming and Acquistions: “When you look at the quality and depth of the grid, it is no surprise that the International GT Open has gained such a strong following among Motors TV viewers. “We screened hour-long highlights of every round in 2009 and this year we’re adding four live rounds at Valencia, Magny-Cours, Monza and Barcelona as well as highlights from all the other races.
