Ted Toleman, Category Manager for the Hertz MINI Challenge – delivered by Pizza Capers and former F1 team-owner, has personally delivered a copy of his new book "The Toleman Story – Last Romantics in Formula 1" to Hispania F1 Racing driver Bruno Senna at this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix.
With Toleman offering the great Ayrton Senna his Formula 1debut drive in the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix – where he finished an amazing 2nd - it was fitting that his nephew Bruno be presented a copy of this fantastic read by Toleman himself - who is present this week to run his single-make MINI Challenge series.
The book has been in the works for sometime and explores the trials, tribulations and amazing life of Toleman in F1 plus a look at what the man is doing today via a new era of motorsport in MINI Challenge racing.
Bruno Senna showed much gratitude that Toleman took the time to personally deliver this piece of history to him and was delighted by the prospect of the read and perhaps discovering some new tales of his uncle in Formula 1.
The HRT F1 driver is currently at point in his career where is late Uncle was when Toleman brought him into the sport. It was clear today the presentation of the book was an emotional moment and one he will take with him through his racing career.
Toleman F1 ultimately became Benetton in 1986 and was purchased by Renault in 2000 but Monaco Gran Prix - 1984 will always mark the debut of one of the greatest F1 drivers in history, courtesy of Ted Toleman.
While over in F1Pitlane Toleman also bumped into an old friend – Business magnate Richard Branson who he set and Atlantic Crossing record with back in 1986.
The book can be purchased online or from a selection of Australian and UK bookstores. Small, unfashionable, short of money – and the last of its kind to become a force in Grand Prix racing. The story of Toleman is not only fascinating and improbable, it has never been told before.
MINI Challenge Category Manager Ted Toleman said:
"It was a great honour to present Bruno with the book at the Grand Prix today. My book includes so much about his uncle and I hope he will be able to emulate Ayrton one day. It was an honour brining Ayrton into the sport of Formula 1 – he did things with the car that no other driver ever could."
