The CPC Legends Cars series kicked off this weekend at Oulton Park and fans were treated to awesome flag to flag action as the series lived up to its billing as Motorsports 'closest racing'.
With numerous incidents and frantic overtaking, John Jon Higgins came out on top over the three legs with a 2-1-3 scorecard. The unique regulations for grid line-up have been devised for maximum competiveness and this proved the case at the picturesque Oulton Park circuit. Drivers pick their numbers out of a hat to determine grid positions for the first race which are then reversed for race two. The third and final outing is determined by the combined results of the previous races but with the added excitement of the driver with the least points heading up the grid!
One driver who found this process a mixed blessing was Paul Musselle who as the driver of CPC's own car and producer of the TV broadcasts ironically picked pole position for race one. Given that Paul had also had some time off from racing he immediately joked "No pressure then!" Paul Musselle went on to claim some strong top ten finishes despite several off-track excursions!
It was a busy weekend for CPC, the new sponsors of the Legends series, as they unveiled their new car and championship sponsorship to their 350 strong staff at a special staff event complete with a 'Stig' lookalike! The innovative electrical distributor have also commissioned a two seater car which was used to good effect for staff and competition winners to experience all the fun of Legends racing.
Alison Lockley, CPC Inventory, Marketing and Media Manager commented, "We've really had the full Legends experience this weekend and what a great event it has been for close racing, atmosphere and incidents! It's also been fantastic to have the CPC race team to follow to give us an insight into the racing itself and they also looked after our staff so well. We're looking forward to coming to as many rounds as possible and all our staff will be following it on the television."
The series moves onto Brands Hatch next for round two on the 17th-18th April.

Legends Cars are 5/8 scale racers based on pre-war Ford, Chevy and Dodge bodies with a unique 'Funny Car' style. Under the bonnet they are driven by identical Yamaha 1250cc, a combination designed to keep the machines ultra lightweight and highly manoeuvrable for close, exciting racing. The Legends Car is a real race car, consisting of a tubular frame and roll cage, a locked differential and tight, responsive steering.
Strict rules limit modifications, keep the costs down and reveal the talents of the drivers. Equal performance and reversed grids guarantee fast, exciting and dramatic racing. The series has seen consistently high grids with an impressive 32 potential machines for the new season and past Champions have a habit of returning after failing to find the same buzz in other classes.
