AS SERIES WELCOMES TWO NEW ARRIVALS
Grid sizes for rounds three and four of the ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin have received a boost following the registrations of two new drivers to the one-make saloon-car series.
Former Formula Renault UK racer James Dixon, 20, from Maidstone, joins front-running team Total Control Racing while Graham Mulholland, 36, from Belper in Derbyshire, will race alongside Darren Wilson at 20Ten Racing.
The new drivers now see the grid size increase to 17 ahead of the next two rounds which take place at Northamptonshire’s Rockingham Motor Speedway on 24th/25th April.
Dixon, who raced a part season in Formula Renault UK last year with Mark Burdett Motorsport, said: “Since last year I’ve not raced at all but I’ve still had the racing bug and the Clios seemed the best way for me to get out there again. I’ve actually not even sat in the Clio before, or even driven a front-wheel-drive race car, so aside from a test this week at Mallory Park I’ve got no experience! That said, I know many of the tracks from my previous racing and I’m confident I can put in a good performance at Rockingham and for the remainder of the season.”
Former 750MC Stock Hatch racer Mulholland, who finished fourth in the series last year, said: “I know Darren Wilson and Simon Hunt at 20Ten Racing from my Stock Hatch days and they invited me to take a test at Mallory Park. It went really well and before I knew it I was racing at Rockingham! This year will be a steep learning curve for me as I’ve never raced on slick tyres before or used a sequential gearbox but I’m really looking forward to it.”
Championship Promoter Simon North added: “We’re delighted to have two new drivers join us in the TOCA paddock and after two thrilling races at Thruxton we’re looking forward to more of the same at Rockingham.”
