The tests held at Zandvoort gave Regalia some unforeseen problems, as an engine blew in his carin Wednesday’s first hour. However heis happy with the work that he developed with his team.
The Spanish-Argentinean driver tested Tuesday and Wednesday on the Dutch circuit, as he look at the beginning of the Formula BMW Europe Championship. These days should be very important for the first race of the season, which will take place at Circuit de Catalunya, but some mechanical problems prevented the Eifelland Racing driver from doing the number of laps that he would like.
The first day was very productive and he signed the sixth best lap, although he had some problems with the new tyres: “I had some problems with the new rubber and have to improve that, but we have a good baseline and I could be a bit ahead in the times sheet, because I made a small mistake in my best lap that cost me two tenths. We are going in the right direction”.
Wednesday: “During the morning, in my second timed lap, my car’s engine failed. It was bad for us because I couldn’t return to the track before lunch. I left the pits only when the clock was showing 3 PM, after a small shower”.
with a twitchy car, he had to return to the pits, where the team found a bent suspension arm. This issue was fixed by Eifelland Racing in a few moments, which allowed him to return to the track and to continue the program that was scheduled. “I’m not happy with the times, but the car’s handling is at the best level. When we put new tires, a car broke its engine leaving the track full of oil, and I couldn’t take advantage of them. Though, with all these circumstances, the team felicitated me, because with old tires I was always among the five fastest drivers and I was faster than my team-mates”, underlined Facu Regalia after the second day of testing.
After the Zandvoort test, the Formula BMW Europe drivers will have another opportunity to go to the track before the Montmeló weekend, as the Bavarian constructor scheduled another test session that will be held at Spa-Francorchamps at April 28th.
