Andrew Jordan and the Pirtek Racing team are raring to go at Rockingham BTCC

Andrew Jordan and the Pirtek Racing team are raring to go for this weekend’s second round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at the Rockingham Circuit in Corby. The midlands-based team will be hoping to turn the raw speed shown at the opening round into championship points at the Rockingham oval.

At the Thruxton race the package of the TOCA NGTC Turbo engine and the Vauxhall Vectra chassis proved strong after a superb fourth place in qualifying was followed up with consistently quick laps during the races. The notoriously tricky Thruxton circuit didn’t reap the points rewards the team were hoping for but they head to Rockingham determined to kick start their championship campaign.

Jordan (20) commented ahead of the weekend’s three races, “We know that the speed is definitely there in the car, I even think there is even more to come. I left Thruxton pretty gutted that we hadn’t managed to use our pace to score points, but we had some things go against us in terms of luck and we didn’t fulfill the potential of the car.

“This weekend we really have to get some points on the board, I would really like to take away a podium from one of the races and hopefully an Independent class win, but obviously the main goal is to go for outright victories which I’m confident we can achieve. We aren’t carrying any success ballast on the car into qualifying at Rockingham, so that’s one factor which we will need take advantage of and hopefully have a top three grid slot to set us up for the races.

“I had a podium at Rockingham last year and challenged for the lead for several laps, so we know the Vauxhall runs well there. This year with the NGTC Turbo engine I’m confident the car will be even stronger and we can hopefully run at the front again.”

Practice and Qualifying for the second round of the championship will take place this Saturday 24th April, before the first of three races starts at 11:20am on Sunday. Catch the first two races live on ITV4 during the day, before an extended highlights program at 8:30pm that evening.
