Points for Bateman at Rockingham

Porsche Carrera Cup GB driver Charles Bateman successfully managed to avoid incident in a crash-strewn two races this weekend to score vital Championship points at Rockingham Motor Speedway.

The Motorbase Performance driver, supported by Pilgrim Foodservice and Henderson Insurance Brokers, now has less than a week before the next Round at Brands Hatch in Kent.

A problem in Qualifying with the fuel pump meant that 23 year old Bateman, competing in the Pro class, was unable to finish any higher than 13th. Although getting away cleanly from the line, Bateman lost a few places at the start of Race One.  Over the course of the 18 lap race, the Boston driver made his way up to take the chequered flag in 9th. A better get away in Race Two saw Bateman maintain his grid position. He managed to fight his way up to 6th to take more vital Championship points to leave him 6th in the standings.

After Race Two Bateman commented, “This weekend’s two races were always going to be difficult because of our poor qualifying. But I managed to get away cleanly in both and just set about picking my way through as much as I could. The second race was incident packed and there was carnage everywhere. It worked in my favour as I managed to make up more places, but towards the end the grip had gone and I couldn’t do anything more.”

Round 3 of the Porsche Carrera Cup takes place next weekend at Brands Hatch.
