Castle Combe circuit is harnessing people power to help raise £60,000 for local charities and other good causes to mark this year's 60th anniversary of the popular Wiltshire motorsport venue.
Organisations are being invited to take part in the great Rotary ClubCharity Leg Race on July 4 when anything with wheels can take to the circuitprovided that it does not have an engine.
"We are inviting clubs, teams and individuals to enter anything that is human powered, whether they walk, run, cycle, ride skateboards, push shopping trolleys, or even tow a car," said circuit chairman Howard Strawford.
"We are welcoming any charity, group of friends, PTA's or any organisation and give them an exciting opportunity to raise urgently needed funds for their particular cause or campaign.
"Each team taking part must pledge to try and raise £1,000 for their good cause and the £30 entry fee per team will go to the Rotary Club for their Eradicate Polio campaign," he said.
"This year we are celebrating our Diamond Jubilee which is a very important milestone in our history, and we have launched this event to make it evenmore special."
We are looking for 60 clubs to take part and this should provide a hugely entertaining day for spectators and competitors as well as raising valuablefunds for deserving causes."
There will be two events devoted to Under-16s and those over 16. The big days tarts at 10.30am with the Great Junior Leg Race, which will last one hourand is open to teams of anyone under 16, or where necessary youngstersaccompanied by parents and friends. The Great Leg Race will start at 12.15pm and is open to all those over 16 -although youngsters can take part provided they are accompanied by their parent, friends or guardian, and the chequered flag brings the event to anend at 15.00pm.
The day will close, if there is sufficient demand, with the Castle Combe one lap soapbox derby.Both events will have medical cover with marshalling provided by the Castle Combe Racing Club team of highly experienced marshals. In addition the local Rotary Clubs will have various displays in the Paddock to make this a great day out for the family to enjoy.
