Following the withdrawal of 3 cars from the entry list for the 24hours of Le Mans, it was announced by the Automobile Club del’Ouest at 6pm, 7th May 2010 that a second entry would be givento Matech Competition to compete in the legendary race.
Matech Competition will be entering 2 of the Matech Ford GT1cars for the 24 hour race, and the official Matech customer team,Marc VDS Racing also have a car entered meaning 3 Matech FordGTs will be racing alongside the the other 52 prototypes and GTcars on June 12-13.
The announcement was made during a press conferenceorganised during the Le Mans Series 1000Km of Spa race event,where Matech are competing with both cars and which is seen asa rehearsal for the Le Mans race.
On hearing the news, Martin Bartek, Owner and Team Principalsaid of the challenge ahead, «This was already a big challengewith one car, so now the challenge has doubled. Of course, Iwould like to thank the ACO for having belief in Matech and ourproject even before our GT1 car was built. Since then, we haveproved that the car is already competitive in the WorldChampionship, and we are now looking forward to bringing twocars to the 24 hours of Le Mans.
While we are a young team, we have already proved that we areable to win in 24 hour races, with the Spa 24 hours last year.Even though our second entry was 4th on the reserve list, wecontinued to prepare both the cars and the mechanics in the hopethat this situation might arise, and I am delighted that I can takeour Ford GTs back to their birth place.»
Competing in the 1000Km of Spa this weekend in the Le MansSeries are Matech’s cars ’60 and ’61, both Matech Ford GT1 cars.Driving the ’60 car is Thomas Mutsch, Jonathan Hirschi andMathias Beche, while car ’61 is driven by Cyndie Allemann, RahelFrey and Yann Zimmer. Jonathan drove with Matech in 2009 inthe FIA GT Championship, while Mathias and Yann both testedthe car earlier in the year at Paul Ricard.1
