DEKRA is undertaking its fourth campaign for young motorists by extending a free invitation for a vehicle safety check. This year the initiative is being launched jointly by the German Traffic Police and DEKRA is receiving the prominent backing of AT&T Williams Formula One driver, Nico Hülkenberg, who has lent his voice and face to promote the wide-reaching safety campaign. The campaign’s Patron is Federal Transport Minister Dr. Peter Ramsauer. Last year over 15,000 young drivers availed themselves of the opportunity to have the safety condition of their vehicle checked voluntarily and free of charge at DEKRA.
“We have managed to secure the help Nico Hülkenberg as our safety ambassador, who aged 22 and with the profile that Formula One brings is just the sort of person to appeal to the target audience for this campaign,“ said Clemens Klinke, Chairman of the Board of Management of DEKRA Automobil GmbH and Member of the Board of Management of DEKRA AG. The aim of the fourth anniverasry of this initiative is to reduce yet further the high accident risk in this younger demographic group. From 10th May to 26th June, young motorists will have the opportunity to have their car inspected competently and free of charge at all DEKRA inspection centres across the Germany. Moreover, experts will be available to answer any questions on car safety that drivers may have. “Road safety concerns all of society,” said Klinke and provides the motivation behind DEKRA’s SafetyCheck. “Everybody involved must shoulder his or her responsibilities. By signing up to the EU Charter for Road Safety, we take this task seriously.”
Nico’s Formula One team, AT&T Williams, which is also supporting the programme, is actively promoting road safety through a variety of campaigns internationally. The team uses its Formula One safety experience and reputation to help communicate road safety messages to those road users most at risk, namely young men.
