Castle Combe Circuit was one of the first tracks to run its own track days when, in association with Fowlers Motorcycles, the days started back in 1994.
Since then, thousands of riders have covered many tens of thousands of laps and with a restriction on just 12 days a year, the days have proved popular with many days selling out quickly.
Introduced five years ago, our 'new-to-track' sessions have allowed those riders who have not previously experienced a track day to do so in like minded company and with dedicated 'new-to-track' instructors and have proved a big hit.
This year we have introduced some new format days. For the experienced track day rider with a performance bike, there is a new 'Elite' day on Wednesday 21st July. Restricted to just 36 riders, running in three groups of 12 to give 20 minutes of track riding per hour, the day is open to riders over 25 years of age with bikes of over 600cc and who have experienced at least ten track days, five of which should have been around the demanding 1.85-mile Castle Combe Circuit. The cost is £195.00 per place.
Also new for 2010 are our new Rider Safety Performance Days. After trialling these in conjunction with Somerset Road Safety last year, a selected band of our instructors have been put through an extensive winter ROSPA training course to add to their considerable track riding skills. The Rider Performance Safety Days are run in conjunction with Somerset and Gloucester Road Safety Units and in partnership with Motorcycle Direct Insurance and are open to riders on any motorcycle. The days will include lectures on road safety, basic bike handling, observation, planning, braking and avoidance skills, vehicle maintenance, smart riding as well as lapping the famous circuit. There is a choice of three dates starting from Wednesday 26th May and the price per rider is just £99.00.
And that's not all! Working with the emergency services is the new BikeSafe and Castle Combe Track Day on Saturday 5th June. This is a unique opportunity combining the experience of Police Advanced Riders with track experts and gives you the chance to enjoy riding your motorcycle at Castle Combe Circuit from just £25.00. Riders can enjoy a Police safety check of their bikes, road riding with Advanced Police Trainers before venturing out onto the track. There will also be demonstrations and displays from most of the major manufacturers and accessory providers. For full details look on the BikeSafe website at avonandsomerset.police.uk/bikesafe.
With all this going on, don't forget too that Castle Combe is an exciting race venue with its annual motorcycle race day being held on Saturday 4th September. Organised by the New Era Motorcycle Race Club, the meeting features some 15 races for just about every solo class including Lansdowne Classics, plus F2 sidecars, the new MotoVolt Trophy electric machine race, the annual King of Castle Combe Challenge, plus a great classic display during the lunch break. Probably one of the best attended national meetings of the year; it's the one opportunity West Country race fans get to see motorcycle sport as the circuit approaches its 60th anniversary of motorcycle racing in 2011.
Full details of the event will be found on the Castle Combe website at www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk built by Racecar
