Unprecedented live global TV coverage for Rally of Scotland

The high-speed action, drama and spectacular scenery served up by the 2010 RACMSA Rally of Scotland (15-17 October) will enjoy unprecedented live global television coverage.

No fewer than four of the event’s competitive timed stages will be broadcast live by Eurosport, Europe’s largest television sports channel and promoter of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC). What’s more these programmes will be screened at peak weekend viewing hours. Saturday’s live action features the two passes through the challenging 12-mile Errochty special stage in Perth and Kinross at 10:00am-11:00am and 4:30pm-5:30pm (UK time).

Sunday’s live coverage will switch to the classic 18-mile Loch Ard test in the Trossachs – widely rated as one of the greatest timed stages in world rallying. Programmes are scheduled for 10:00am-11:00am and 12:45pm-14:00pm.

In addition, Eurosport will also show its Rally Magazine review programme at 10:00pm-11:00pm GMT on Tuesday 19 October. Eurosport’s Asia-Pacific platform will show the second Errochty stage live plus slightly delayed coverage of other stage action. Between its various platforms, Eurosport will devote approximately 15 hours of coverage to the event – the penultimate round of the 2010 IRC – through its live coverage and replayed highlights.

“Scotland provides us with an amazing sporting backdrop and that’s why we are happy to be dedicating so much live airtime to this event,” explained Xavier Gavory, IRC General Co-ordinator at Eurosport Events. “The combination of fast cars, incredible scenery, charismatic weather and all those wonderful historic landmarks makes the Rally of Scotland one of the most distinctive and striking events of its kind. We will be using extensive helicopter and on-board shots to capture all the stunning landscapes and drama. It’s going to generate some fantastic television footage for Eurosport viewers right around the world.”

Guy Wilks, winner of last year’s inaugural Rally of Scotland for the Skoda UK team, said: “It’s terrific that Eurosport is going to be transmitting the magnificence of Scotland and the excitement of top class rallying into so many households right around the globe. It’s a very difficult thing to do because the cars are moving over a massive distance, not like on a circuit. It’s obviously a major challenge to broadcast it live, paint a picture and tell a story. It’s something that’s been missing from our sport for a number of years, so it’s credit to Eurosport for taking up the challenge and doing a great job.”

The 2010 Rally of Scotland (15-17 October) is the penultimate round of the high-profile Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC). Some of the world’s leading rally teams, cars and drivers – including Brits Guy Wilks (Skoda), Kris Meeke (Peugeot) and Scotland’s own Alister McRae (Proton) – are set to be in action during the three-day event. Its route, set against a stunning backdrop, starts at Scone Palace on the Friday night before two days of punishing high-speed special stages through forests in Perthshire and Stirlingshire. It is recognised as one of Scotland’s premier sporting events of the year.

Admission to all timed stages is free for children aged 15 and under, while adults can order their tickets in advance and have them posted to their home address prior to the event – removing the hassle of picking them up at a collection point. Adult tickets cost £10 to see the Ceremonial Start and opening two stages at Scone Palace (Fri 15 Oct) or £20 for a day pass which offers full access to all stages on either the Saturday or the Sunday. Alternatively a full-event ‘Alba Pass’ (in advance only) can also be purchased for £45. All tickets include a complimentary souvenir official spectator programme worth £6.50.

Tickets can be booked via the official rallyofscotland.com website or the hotline 0844 847 2488 (pre-order deadline is 9.00am on 7 October for UK spectators and 9.00am on 1 October for those travelling from overseas).

The rallyofscotland.com website also provides public with event information such as the rally route, stage times and descriptions etc.
