Will Kaiser win the Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Challenge or will Vergne drive away with the prize?
The Sunoco Daytona Challenge is now in its last weekend; and it’s the grand prix circuit at Brands Hatch which will play host to the final race to determine who will clinch the $250,000 prize of racing a Daytona Prototype at the 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona.
The challenge will reach its climax this weekend (25th/26th of September). Ross is now on 107.50 average points per race putting huge pressure on British F3 champion Jean- Eric Vergne to perform highly in his last British F3 race weekend. Vergne has already won the British F3 title in style but is focusing on setting new records in race wins and of course to win the Sunoco Daytona Challenge. The Radical UK Cup 2010 champion Ross Kaiser has finished his season meaning his points are now static. Without being able to increase his points and with Vergne’s determination Jean-Eric stands every chance of racing ahead and adding the Daytona Challenge to his prize list.
To clinch the prize from Ross Jean-Eric needs to:
1. Win both races, set two poles and one fastest lap=108.25 pts2. Win both races, set one pole and two fastest laps=108.25 pts3. Win one race, come second in one race but set two poles and two fastest laps=108.0 pts
If Vergne scores maximum points this weekend he will finish his season on 109.25 average points per race.Sound unachievable? To anyone else yes, but to Jean-Eric anything else would be below his expectations. It’s this determination which makes this challenge so unpredictable; with no one clearly out in front this weekend’s final of the Sunoco Daytona Challenge is set to be the most thrilling yet.
