Tim Harvey leads the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship by 19 points after securing two second place podium finishes at Donington last weekend, maintaining his unbroken lead of the championship throughout the 2010 season. As the final round at Brands Hatch approaches on the 9 and 10 October, Tim is the favourite to take the title.
However, the weekend was not without its drama. Harvey had secured fourth place in qualifying for race two, but came from fourth to second by lap ten to secure his final position. Most people are pleased when they see the Nationwide Accident Repair Services plc logo approaching, however the orange livery of Tim’s Nationwide-sponsored vehicle was probably the last thing Michael Caine, race leader, wanted to see in his rear-view mirror. Caine, who has been chasing Tim all season, ideally needed a non-finish from the Redline racing driver to secure the lead in the championship.
“I’m happy to have got good finishes at the weekend but personally I’m a little disappointed that we couldn’t have beaten Caine.” explained Tim. “However, we did the next best thing, came second and will take a comfortable points margin into Brands for the last meeting. I think we maybe didn’t extract the maximum out of the car however, I am confident that we can still take the title in October – I have no doubt we have the best car, the best team....and the best driver of course!”
