Winterbottom on pole for Sundays Bathurst 1000

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom has secured pole position  with a fastest lap time of 2.07.53seconds in Saturday's top 10 Shootout.

TeamVodafone duo Craig Lowndes (2:07.6201) and Jamie Whincup (2:07.7226) will start from second and third.

Holden's Jason Bright, who qualified fastest for Saturday's hit-out but will be starting the race in eighth after only managing a 2:08.3979.

Whincup's championship rival James Courtney will start seventh while defending champions Garth Tander and Will Davison are fifth and sixth.

Winterbottom said pole position was a reward for his team's hard work.

"I knew I was on a pretty good lap but I wasn't sure if it would be enough to hold out Lowndes," Winterbottom said.

The first two sectors were really strong but around here your buffer can never be big enough but in this case .08 seconds was enough," he added.

"We knew the car was strong in race mode but our qualifying set-up was largely untested until that lap because I made a few small mistakes in yesterday's qualifying and this morning's practice so it was hard to get a gauge on where we really were at.
