Jackson clinches pro-am1 title in Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Ollie Jackson hopes to graduate into the pro category of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB next season after winning the pro-am1 title at Brands Hatch during the final race weekend of the season (9/10 October). The Attleborough-based racer enjoyed another superb season with Motorbase Performance, winning pro-am1 in 11 of the 20 races and finishing as high as fourth overall as he saw off the challenge of Jonas Gelzinis and Tony Gilham to take the category title."It's been a fantastic year and I've really enjoyed every minute of it," said Jackson. "It's easy to turn up for every race weekend and take for granted just what a privilege it is being here. It was my dream to be a racing driver and to be here, and to be a champion, is just fantastic."Jackson has an unrivalled record across his Carrera Cup career to date, having finished in the points in each of the 40 races since he joined the championship at the start of the 2009 season."All credit to Motorbase, Timmy Hull and my mechanic Richard, because you don’t get 40 finishes from 40 races without having a solid car, especially with so many wins in there as well," said Jackson. "It's been tough, particularly with Jonas as my major pro-am1 rival. He's had a bit of bad luck, which has widened the gap more than it would have been. He's never an easy man to beat."Over the latter stages of the season, Jackson had to resist the temptation to fight too much against the pro drivers as he concentrated on securing the pro-am1 title. "I've had to be careful about racing against the pro drivers over the second half of the season, but I've mixed it in the top five and finished fourth in the last race at Brands. It was great to mix it with the pros and hopefully it shows that, if I can raise the budget for next year, I can make the step up to the pro category."Already, he is working towards 2011 and the chance to race the new model 911GT3 Cup car. "Ideally, I'll come back next year to race as a pro, but that does depend on budgets. If that happens, realistically I’d like to be chasing podiums. But it's a very competitive championship and it won’t get any easier!"
