LEIGH Adams will take the No.1 race-jacket for his Farewell meeting at Swindon on Sunday evening.Adams will be making his 299th and final appearance on the Blunsdon circuit, having made his debut way back in June 1989 when he was racing for Poole against the Robins.
His opposition in Heat 1 of his Farewell, which starts at 5.30, includes fellow Aussie Chris Holder and former Swindon star Matej Zagar, along with current team-mate Mads Korneliussen.
Adams said: "Thank you to the fans all over the country who have shown me support during my 22 seasons, whether they can be at Swindon on Sunday or not."It’s been a great journey. Even after such a long career I am still learning. I’ve never become bored with it - just too old to keep up with all the young ones!"
SHEFFIELD promoter Neil Machin says the Tigers' promotion play-off Final clash with Newcastle on Thursday is their biggest meeting of the season. The Owlerton club performed a near-miracle in the semi-finals to overturn a 28-point first leg deficit against league champions Edinburgh, and now they are looking to build a lead over the Diamonds.
The winners of the play-offs will face the Elite League's bottom side Ipswich, including the likes of Scott Nicholls and Danny King, in the relegation race-off.
Machin said: "Credit where it’s due, I was scathing about our team after losing at Edinburgh and they responded in some style. I was amazed by what we achieved and it means we have a great meeting against Newcastle.“We will give the meetings everything we have got and then if we get through I am sure we will have two tremendous meetings against Elite League Ipswich."FIXTURES:WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 13:ELITE LEAGUE KO CUP S/F 2nd leg: Poole v Peterborough 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: King’s Lynn v Newport 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE KO CUP S/F 2nd leg: Birmingham v Newcastle 7.30 THURSDAY OCTOBER 14:PREMIER LEAGUE PLAY-OFF FINAL 1st leg: Sheffield v Newcastle 7.45CHALLENGE: Ipswich v USA Touring Team 7.30 FRIDAY OCTOBER 15:YOUNG SHIELD S/F 1st leg: Newport v Rye House 7.30 KINGS OF THE MIDLANDS: Coventry v Wolverhampton 7.30CHALLENGE: Young Lions v USA Touring Team (at Lakeside) 6.30 LONDON RIDERS CHAMPIONSHIP: Lakeside 8pm KENNY SMITH MEMORIAL TROPHY: Scunthorpe 7.30WESTERNAPOLIS: Plymouth 7.30SATURDAY OCTOBER 16:ELITE OPEN RIDERS CHAMPIONSHIP: Peterborough 7.30 YOUNG SHIELD S/F 1st leg: Workington v Scunthorpe 7pm NATIONAL LEAGUE FOURS & NLRC, Rye House - OFFSUNDAY OCTOBER 17:PREMIER LEAGUE PLAY-OFF FINAL 2nd leg: Newcastle v Sheffield 6.30 NATIONAL LEAGUE PLAY-OFF S/F 2nd leg: Buxton v Dudley 3pm, Newport v Bournemouth 1pm LEIGH ADAMS FAREWELL: Swindon 5.30 ASHFIELD CLASSIC: Glasgow 4pm
