Pete Barber - 2nd in Euro Drift Championship

The sun shone on Snetterton race track and young drift sensation Pete Barber as he took second place in the final round of the 2010 European Drift Championship (EDC) – which meant second place for the season.

Pete, 24, drives a heavily modified Mazda RX-7 and is sponsored byperformance, modified and imported car insurance broker Swinton Specialist.

Mark Luney had already secured the title – his second in a row – and showed what a top class performer he is by winning at Snetterton too.

But Pete wasn’t far behind. He got through the Final against Paul Conlon but was out-performed. “There wasn’t enough heat in my tyres before those two runs, and I got a lot of understeer in the first one, which Paul won 8-2. I came back and took the second run 6-4 but he obviously went through.”

So it was second place on the day and overall for Pete. After finishing 16th in his first year on the circuit, and an astonishing third place in 2009, next year he will focusing on the top spot.

“It would have been good to have won, but the next highest place is a great result. It’s my best yet so that’s very satisfying, and I want to thank Swinton Specialist and my other sponsors for their help. I would really like to be back next season.”

Rob Asher, Head of Swinton Specialist, commented: “Pete has repaid everyone’s faith in him by finishing second in the championship. He’s improved on last year and we couldn’t ask for more than that. It’s testament to his hard work and the team behind him, so congratulations to everyone involved.”
