Sepang MotoGP confirmed until 2013

MotoGP commercial rights holders, Dorna Sports, has agreed a new deal that will see the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) continue to appear in the FIM MotoGP World Championship calendar until 2013.

A regular feature in the MotoGP schedule since 1999, Sepang's new deal with Dorna is estimated to be worth US$4 million annually.

Dorna Sports chief executive officer, Carmelo Ezpeleta, said, "I'm delighted with the extension of the agreement with Malaysia, a country with such a tradition of passion for MotoGP. The Sepang International Circuit, a favourite for riders, has proven to be a state of the art venue both in terms of sheer spectacle and safety. After the celebration of 20 years of MotoGP in Malaysia this year, it is very good news that we will continue to cooperate with SIC as they have lots of experience organising international motorsports events."

Sepang International Circuit chief executive officer, Razlan Razali, added: “I’m very happy with the extension of this agreement, which reflects the government commitment to further develop motorsports in Malaysia. The government recognises the huge economic impact brought by the event to the country in terms of tourism-related revenue as well as the progress in the motorsports field thanks to the celebration of a MotoGP event in Malaysia.”
