Round 8: Donington Park, October 17Allan Simonsen and Hector Lester clinched victory in the Avon Tyres British GT season finale at Donington Park – the series’ first ever ‘twilight’ round. The pair’s triumph was the result of a remarkable recovery drive following an opening-lap spin that left Lester at the tail end of the field. Lester was a lap and a half in arrears when he handed over to Simonsen, who carved his way through the pack and took advantage of rivals’ mechanical maladies to win.Lester said: “We are quite used to pulling rabbits out of the hat. The greater the challenge, the better Allan rises to it. We had a bit of luck with other cars having misfortunes, but the more Allan has to do the harder he goes at it. Maybe I did him a bit of a favour by making a mess at the start.”Results
