Porsche Carrera World Cup announced

The world’s greatest Porsche race is the claim for the Porsche Carrera World Cup, when up to 200 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racers will line up on the Nürburgring Nordschleife on Saturday 25 June.The race will take place prior to the start of the 39th ADAC 24-hour race and will run over a distance of six laps, approximately 95 miles. More than 200,000 spectators are expected to watch the race.The Porsche Carrera World Cup forms the season highlight of Porsche’s 18 brand trophy series worldwide. This race counts as a round of several national Carrera Cups, including Germany and Scandinavia."We are looking at being involved," said Marion Barnaby, championship manager for the Carrera Cup GB. "We are talking to teams about the logistics of this event and will announce more details in the New Year."The entry for the race will be divided into two classes: The 911 GT3 Cup with 3.6-litre engines from 2007 to 2009 model years (400 to 420 hp) and the 3.8-litre versions of the 2010 and 2011 model years (450 hp). For all Nordschleife rookies, an intensive two-day training course will take place in the week leading up to the event with former Porsche works driver Sascha Maassen as the chief instructor.
