Raikkonen and Robertson Sell F3 Team

HIEATT TAKES THE HELM AT DOUBLE R RACING

Raikkonen Robertson Racing will be renamed Double R Racing as Anthony Hieatt has taken sole control of the successful Formula 3 team. Following the conclusion of negotiations between co-owners Steve and David Robertson and former F1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen, Hieatt will head up team from its established Woking base, and is confident it will continue with its success, starting with its campaign with  four cars in the 2011 British F3 International Series.

“Since we set up the team in 2005 we have enjoyed many highs, including winning the British F3 Championship in 2006 and other races including the most prestigious one in Macau,” said Team Principal Anthony Hieatt.  “The Robertson family and Kimi have been very supportive throughout but it is time for all of us to take a different direction. It has always been my intention to fully take control of the Team and we all felt that the time was right.  The new ownership will give the team a fresh independence and has already attracted fresh blood to our driving squad for 2011 with two drivers already signed – their identities will be revealed soon.  I know the team goes forward with their blessing and this gives the Robertson’s Management Company the flexibility to work with other teams and will allow us to be fully independent.  Throughout the team’s existence we have been a loyal supporter of the Mercedes F3 engine project; this relationship will continue following a very positive meeting between us in Macau. We have no doubt the battle between Mercedes and VW will be fierce in 2011!”In addition the Dallara and Hewland Parts support service that has been so successful over the past two seasons will continue to be operated by subsidiary company Formula Merchants.   “The change will be seamless, it business as usual”.The team is also looking forward at new categories of racing, a GT3 Sportscar programme that is gathering momentum by the day.Double R will concentrate on building technical and commercial partnerships over the coming months.  Already the team is proud to announce a technical partnership with respected composites and machining company BRP, a leading supplier to the F1 industry, giving them an unrivalled manufacturing capability within the British F3 paddock.  This will boost Double R’s development programme for the current F3 car and future projects, which will include a simulator which is already underway.BRP has expertise in manufacturing the most complex of composite components, as well as the ability to machine exotic metals and composite components in their highly equipped machining facility.
