On the Brazilian racetrack at Interlagos, Matech Competition’s drivers had a good qualifying session for Round 9 of the FIA GT1 World Championship.
Richard Westbrook and Thomas Mutsch, in Matech Ford GT1 n°5, were 5th, but due to a crash at Navarra in Round 8, they were pushed back 3 places to P-8. Neel Jani and Nicolas Armindo, in car n°6, were P-8, but because car n°5 moved back, they started the qualifying race from P-7.
The Qualifying race turned into a nightmare for the team because Thomas Mutsch, who took the start had been hit by the Lamborghini n°25 at the beginning of lap 2.
With a broken rim and tyre separation, there was no way to continue the race for Thomas: the car was too much damaged. For Nicolas Armindo, doing his second race with Matech Competition, it was a little bit of the same story as the Nissan n°22 also hit him in lap 2. Coming from P-11 after the start to P-19 after the crash, he pushed hard to give the car to Neel Jani in a better position.
With very warm weather, Neel Jani managed to finish the race in an excellent P-7.
