A long, hard season comes to an end for Asia Racing Team with the last race of 2010 AFR Series, alsoknown as Asian Formula Renault Championship, at the Zhuhai International Circuit. After 10 toughraces, Asia Racing Team have already won the Drivers and Teams' Championship titles, but SandyStuvik, Tin Sritrai, Chi Cong Li, Suriya Bala and Naomi Zhang Ran will be giving their all to end theseason on a positive note.
Stuvik had done enough to secure the first position championship standings with two races to go. The15 years old from Thailand didn’t miss a podium position since the season start, and is not willing tomiss the chance to write history in the series as the very first driver to finish all the AFR Series racesin the podium. The 2010 AFR Series Champion emerges as the favorite to win both races thisweekend.
With the battle for the other championship positions still on-going, Asia Racing Team will be drawingon a wealth of experience attained in seven years of Formula Renault racing. The fight for the silvermedal position is still wide open with Sritrai currently staying on a privileged position with five pointsand half ahead of his biggest opponent. The Thai driver arrives to Zhuhai motivated by his first eversingle seater victory in the last AFR Series event and with Supercar Thailand 1500cc category title inthe pocket.
For Chi Cong Li, Round 11 & 12 will provide the Guangzhou native with the opportunity to end hischampionship-winning season on a high note in front of friends and family. The Chinese rising starhave little chances to reach the Top-3, but two podium results will be enough to settle the fourthposition in the championship.
Suriya Bala enters the season-finale seeking to not only end the year on a high-note, but also to addto his career win total. While Suriya is not in contention for any championship position, theSingaporean, who started his 2010 season in Formula BMW Pacific, is more than capable of playingthe role of spoiler.
After making her series debut with Asia Racing Team at Chengdu, Zhang Ran will return to thecockpit of the No. 6 red and black entry in Zhuhai. Racing at her favorite testing track, she willattempt to better is 8th place finish in Round 10.The Macanese Zhuhai based team has won three in ten of all races entered, and set 53% of allpodium positions.
The AFR Series season-finale at Zhuhai commences on Thursday, December 9th, with a pair ofpromoter's test days. One day later, the Asia Racing Team quintet and the rest of the field willofficially begin posting times via two 30-minute practice sessions. Following morning qualifying onSaturday, December 11th, the eleventh race of the 12-race calendar will commence with the AFRSeries car launching from the standing start in the afternoon. As part of “Circuit Hero 500” weekend,the last race of the 2010 season is scheduled for Sunday, December 12th.
