History will be made in Oman this afternoon, Wednesday, 15th December, when homegrown sports star Ahmad Al Harthy takes to the streets of Muscat at the wheel of his Porsche 911 GT3 race car for a ground-breaking public performance in the Sultanate. The 29-year-old, who competes in the highly prestigious Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship in the United Kingdom, will deliver several demo-runs of his 425bhp racer at set intervals between 15.00 and 17.30 (local time) on the public highway between Qantab Road and Shangri-La Road. Thanks to the tremendous support of the Omani government and the local Muscat police, Ahmad will be able to perform a series of demonstration runs to showcase the power and performance of his Porsche 911 to the Omani people - an experience normally limited to racing highlights on TV! Run in association with his chief sponsor Oman Air, the thrilling performance has also been made possible thanks to Ahmad's other superb commercial backers including National Bank of Oman, Nawras, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs and Brand Oman. In addition, the 'road show' is receiving support through an alliance with the Oman Automobile Association and the 2010 Asian Beach Games - the latter currently underway and set to conclude on Thursday, 16th December, at the fabulous Al-Musannnah Sports City, north of Muscat. "This is an amazing opportunity for me", said Ahmad looking ahead to the event, "To be able to give the people of Oman a close-up look at my race car in action on the streets of my home city, well, it's something I never thought would be possible! "We have received incredible support from the government, the local police and, of course, all of my sponsors to make this happen. It's going to be a ground-breaking event for Oman, nothing like this has ever happened before and I'm immensely proud to be making a piece of history. Thank you to all of the partners who are making today's road show a possibility."-
