Renowned American sports sponsor Makita have signed a sponsorship deal to return as the official and exclusive power tool of AMA Supercross championship for the 2011 season.
In addition, the Japanese power tools manufacturer is also returning as a primary sponsor of the championship-winning Rockstar Makita Suzuki Team and the 2010 World Supercross and Motocross Champion, Ryan Dungey.The new agreement follows Dungey’s record-breaking 2010 season: he won both championships as a rookie, making the 21-year-old the only person to ever accomplish such an achievement.While financial details of the deal have not been disclosed, the multi-branched deal is part of Makita's growing presence in motorsport and a significant step in strengthening their grip on Supercross.
In addition to racing sponsorships, Makita is the official power tool sponsor of Major League Soccer (MLS), and the Mexican National Soccer Team (FMF) during their competitive matches in the United States.
The 2011 Supercross season launches on Saturday 8th January at Anaheim Stadium. The season will include 16 events across North America, with venues including Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada.
The schedule also includes racing at Daytona International Speedway and a new venue for 2011, the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
