Round 1: Team GMF Wyedean Forest Rally, 12 February
Darren Pinchin, Alan McDowall, Matt Beebe and Ashley Slights all collected maximum SWISHER MSA English Rally Championship points hauls by winning their respective classes on the Team GMF Wyedean Forest Rally.
Pinchin and his co-driver Karen Watts won the 20-strong Class E2 by just seven seconds from Justin Lawson and Paul Hargreaves, while McDowall and navigator Gavin Heseltine triumphed in the 2-litre rear-wheel-drive class over a gaggle of well-driven Mk 2 Ford Escorts.
However, arguably the performance of the day came from 18-year-olds Ashley Slights and Thomas Hughes, who won Class E1 –for standard cars of up to 1400cc – by more than two minutes to finish ahead of many more powerful cars.
