Hamilton Jnr Officially Confirmed At TCR

AS TCR'S LATEST CLIO CUP SIGNING Total Control Racing is delighted to officially confirm Nicolas Hamilton - younger brother of Lewis, 2008 FIA Formula One World Champion - has signed a deal to make his competitive motor racing debut with the team in this year's ELF Renault Clio Cup.Having recently gained his race licence before attending a seat fitting with the Wednesbury based squad last week, the team can verify reports the 19-year-old from Hertfordshire will race for TCR as he takes his first steps on the motorsport ladder. The Hamilton family are, of course, no strangers to the British Touring Car Championship support paddock with Lewis having graduated from karts into Formula Renault UK at the end of 2001. Taking multiple race wins during his maiden season in 2002, Lewis scorched to the title the following year. With the Clio Cup regarded as the most competitive one-make saloon car championship in the UK, neither Nicolas - who has cerebral palsy - nor TCR are underestimating the challenge. Hamilton will partner title prospect James Dixon (Stockbury, Kent) with two more driver signings set to be announced in due course.Speaking on the deal, TCR principal Lee Brookes said: "Obviously it's fantastic for the team to be running Nicolas in his first season in the sport. As Lewis' brother, it's guaranteed he'll attract a lot of attention in the paddock throughout the year but we're confident he'll make good progress and become a very quick racer in his own right."It goes without saying how delighted we are to have agreed terms with Nicolas and his father Anthony and can't wait now to get out there testing to prepare well for the new season. We've every confidence James (Dixon) will be challenging for the title this year and we can hopefully announce two more Clio signings in the coming weeks as well."Hamilton commented: "I have loved motor sport from a young age and watching my brother achieve so much has given me inspiration to make my own racing debut. I know this will not be an easy task, but I hope that my doing this will give inspiration to others who have challenges in their life. I can't wait to be racing."TCR is undoubtedly one of the most successful teams in national motorsport having won multiple championship titles over the years in the Clio Cup, alongside success in a variety of other one-make categories such as the Ginetta G50 Cup and SEAT Cupra Championship.Following pre-season testing over the coming weeks, the team's 2011 motorsport campaign will get underway with the opening two rounds of the ELF Renault Clio Cup at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent on 2nd/3rd April. From there the championship will visit Donington Park, Thruxton, Oulton Park, Croft, Snetterton and Rockingham before returning to Brands Hatch for the finale on 1st/2nd October.
