Plant joins Team Parker Racing for Carrera Cup GB

Richard Plant is the latest potential front-runner to sign for the 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup GB, having confirmed plans to race with Team Parker Racing. The 21 year-old from Sheffield last raced in 2009 when he won the Formula Palmer Audi Championship but was forced to take a sabbatical from racing in 2010 due to an illness in his family. Plant raced karts from the age of nine and spent three seasons in Palmer Audi, winning the title in 2009.Plant said: “I am delighted to be joining such a competitive championship as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and even more so to be racing for Stuart Parker’s team. The series is something I have been looking at for a few years and with more and more young drivers heading to the Carrera Cup GB, I believe it is the right place to hopefully make a name for myself.“It is going to be a huge challenge of course, but one that I am looking forward to very much. A year without racing actually gave me the chance to take a step back and choose the right direction for my career. You have the option to spend a fortune chasing the F1 dream, but I feel that sportscar racing gives me a great opportunity of ultimately becoming a professional racing driver. I think I’ve picked a hard year to join the Carrera Cup,” said Richard. “It’s going to be a new challenge but I think the new car will be a bit of a leveler.”Stuart Parker is delighted with his latest signing: “Richard is an extremely talented young driver with a fantastic background, and it is very exciting for us to be working with him. The last Formula Palmer Audi champion we worked with was Tim Bridgman and he went on to win the title. Richard has that sort of ability too and we’re delighted to welcome him to our team. We have a group of young chargers at Team Parker Racing this year and I expect to be challenging for wins.”
