Sometime 2010 F1 driver Karun Chandhok blew out the winter cobwebs with a day at Pembrey in a current F3 car ahead of an up coming test in a 2011 F1 car.
Double R Racing provided their 2010 race winning chassis for Chandhok to drive. In what was a very low key day he posted a total of 140 trouble free laps in wet and dry conditions.
Team Principle Anthony Hieatt - " Karun wanted to get his eye in and has been a longtime friend of the Team, we were happy to provide a car for him and he ran well all day demonstrating what a true professional he is". "He should have no concerns about his fitness he is more than ready for an F1 test"
Karun Chandhok: "It's no secret I've been edging towards a test contract in F1 over the past few weeks and after the winter break I felt it was important to do some miles in a competitive race car before getting back in a Formula 1 car. My good friend Anthony Hieatt at Double R Racing kindly offered to wheel one of his F3 cars out for me at Pembrey and I have to say I've come away enormously impressed with the current generation of F3 cars. I last raced in the British Championship back in 2004 and it's mighty impressive what Dallara and the teams have done to add so much downforce to the cars. It's really no surprise that drivers are able to get out of these and be quick in GP2 or F1 straight away. It was a fun day down memory lane today"!
