JARVIS GOES FOURTH FOR AUDI AGAIN IN ULTRA-COMPETITIVE DTM
Britain’s Oliver Jarvis has been confirmed as an Audi “factory” driver to contest the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) for a fourth consecutive season.
The 27-year-old from Burwell near Cambridge, will drive a “current” Audi A4 DTM for Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline for a second consecutive year.
“I am delighted to be staying with Abt for a second year,” confirmed Oliver. “Although last season’s results were not what we were hoping for, I built a very strong relationship with the Abt team and it is an environment that I’m happy to work in.
“With this being my fourth year in DTM, I now know the majority of tracks very well although we will race at a new track in Austria this year. However I always enjoy the opportunity to race on a new circuit and learning them is something that I’ve had to do throughout my career.”
Jarvis, who switched from single-seater racing to an Audi A4 DTM touring car ahead of the 2008 season, is enjoying a terrific career in the DTM with Audi. In his second season with Audi Sport Team Phoenix in a “used” A4 in 2009, he made it onto the rostrum twice and rounded off the season as the best Audi driver of a year-old car.
In addition to contesting the DTM last year, Jarvis demonstrated his skills behind the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS on the Nordschleife in the Nürburgring 24 Hours and raced an Audi R10 TDI sports-prototype in the Le Mans 24 Hours for Team Kolles.
Oliver continued: “Despite a very tough first year in the current Audi A4 last season, my aims remain the same and that is to win races and fight for the championship. This year it will also be important to be consistently aiming for the podium.”
The 12-race series begins in May, again includes a race at Brands Hatch, and is scheduled to conclude in Shanghai (China) in November.
“There is a new tyre manufacturer for this year so it should be a level playing field for us all and I am optimistic that both Audi and myself will be competitive,” suggests Jarvis who recently attended Audi Sport’s annual fitness training camp in Ofterschwang, Germany.
