Top ten for Buller in Rockingham test

Northern Irish racer William Buller has kick-started his Cooper Tires British F3 International Series campaign in earnest after taking part in two days of official testing at Rockingham. Will, who goes into the new season buoyed by the news that he will continue to be a member of the Motor Sport Association’s Team UK programme, forms part of the Fortec Motorsport team for his second year in British F3, having joined the team following the conclusion of the 2010 campaign. The opening day of the two-day test started in damp conditions, with Will setting the pace in the second of three sessions held on Tuesday morning. Having elected to sit out the opening session of the afternoon, Will then posted his quickest time of the day on a dry track in session five.In improved conditions on the second day on Wednesday, Will was inside the top ten in three of the five sessions at the wheel of his Dallara-Mercedes and ended the day with the tenth quickest time, a fraction of a second slower than new team-mate Harry Tincknell and within a second of the quickest lap despite completing fewer laps than many of his rivals.“A combination of traffic and red flags meant we weren’t able to really show what we are capable of in terms of times, but the pace is certainly there in the car,” he said. “Without traffic, I was on for a 1min 10.8secs lap that would have put me in the top six, so we know there is still more to come.“I didn’t do as many laps as some people because we only have a limited number of tyres available during the season, we took the decision to sit out one session on Tuesday and then only did limited running in one session today. That has allowed us to save tyres for the upcoming tests, which will be more beneficial than driving round doing laps when we didn’t need to. “We’ve got a few things to work on before we head to Silverstone next week, but overall it’s been a solid start to our season’s work.” With two solid days of running behind him, Will now heads to Silverstone for the next official test on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, with the opening day of running taking place on the series’ annual Media Day and season launch.
