Round Two Circuit Zolder, Belgium
After scoring two seconds and a third place in the two races that made up the opening round of the FIA GT1 World Championship in Abu Dhabi last month, JRM Racing aims to build on its success this weekend, when its contests round two at Zolder. And whilst the team would not be disappointed with a repeat of its Yas Marina performance, it is eager to establish itself at the top of the both the Teams' and Drivers' Championship tables by the time it leaves Belgium on Sunday night.
It was a copybook performance that provided the #22 Nissan GT-R of Peter Dumbreck and Richard Westbrook with their second place in the Qualifying Race and in the Championship Race at the Yas Marina circuit two weeks ago, these impressive results propelling them up to second place in the Drivers' standings. However, the downside of their success means they will carry 25 kilos of success ballast this weekend, which could well provide a significant disadvantage for a circuit with as many slow corners as Zolder.
Team-mates Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr in car #23 finished just one place behind the British pair in the first of the two races in Abu Dhabi. But, following a series of issues - including having to stop to change a punctured tyre after an Aston Martin had driven into their Nissan - meant that no points were scored by the German crew in the main Championship Race.
Without the burden of additional weight, it is likely that car 23 will have an advantage over car 22 at Zolder. However, the team is focussed on making sure that both Nissans achieve a good points score this time around.
An additional factor that was never likely to come into play in round one is that of the weather. Whilst it rarely rains in the UAE, the same cannot be said about Belgium and the unpredictable nature of the Western European climate may well provide a twist to the proceedings this weekend.
Track action starts on Friday with Free Practice and Pre-Qualifying. Competition commences on Saturday with Qualifying at 10.05 CET (09.05 GMT), followed by the first of the one-hour races at 16.15 CET (15.15 GMT). The main 'Championship' race gets underway on Sunday at 14.45 CET (13.45 GMT).
Both races can be watched live on the team's new webpage: www.jrm-racing.comhttp://www.jrm-racing.com/
Team QuotesPeter Dumbreck (Car 22)"We are in a good position to build on what we achieved in Abu Dhabi. However, we're very much going to take this weekend as it comes as we need to keep the points coming in and not necessarily go for a win. But of course, if the opportunity presents itself we won't say no!"
Richard Westbrook (car 22)"I'm delighted with the two podiums in Abu Dhabi, especially as it was the first time out with the team. To end up second twice was a fantastic result. We therefore carry some success ballast, so it will be interesting to see if this changes our car's performance. I have very good memories of Zolder and it's a track I enjoy, which is helped by the Belgium spectators being so enthusiastic about GT racing. Both Peter and I are setting our sights on the championship, not individual races, so it's important we score more points this weekend."
Michael Krumm (Car 23)The Nissan GTRs had a good race performance in Abu Dhabi and finishing on the podium was a great result for JRM Racing and Nissan in the first race of the season, so hopefully that trend will continue. Zolder is not so different to Yas Marina regarding the demands on the car, as it has lots of slow corners, which means hard braking. I did my first ever Formula race at Zolder and have some good memories of the track, so I'm looking forward to going there again."
Lucas Luhr (Car 23)"The last time I drove at Zolder was in 1996 in a Formula Ford 1800, so it has been quite a while since I was there. I don't think that it's going to be easy for our car at this type of track, but it's good that we do not have any success ballast in the car, that's for sure. I am very motivated to bring in a good result for the team and for Nissan, so we need to score some points in the Championship race this weekend."
Nigel Stepney (Team Manager and Chief Engineer) "I was pleased with the performance of the cars in Abu Dhabi, but it could have been better. Our aim is always to get both our cars in a high-scoring position and this will again be the focus of our strategy this weekend. However, there are a number of factors that we have to take into account at Zolder - and one of them is likely to be the weather - plus car 22 will be carrying success ballast."
James Rumsey (Team Principal)"I came away from Abu Dhabi very pleased with the performance of our cars and the performance of the team. If we can eliminate some of the issues that affected car 23, then there is every chance we can come away from this weekend's event at the top of the tables. However, at this point in the season it is important to score as many points as possible and not risk everything for an out-and-out win."
