WITH PRINCIPAL AIM OF WORLD SERIES BY RENAULT TITLE CHASE
Lying only 17 points behind the leader of the 2011 World Series by Renault (WSR) Championship, American driver Alexander Rossi will be looking to secure another strong race result and claim back his place at the top of the leader-board when he competes in Monte-Carlo this weekend.
Rossi made his WSR debut in the Principality of Monaco last year and took to the street circuit quickly, posting the 3rd fast time during Thursday's free practice and leading most of Saturday's qualifying session. He started from 5th on the grid for Sunday's race and held station until half the race distance when he battled overheating tyres and brakes, his race ending prematurely on lap 22.
However Alexander has now proved his mettle, both in Monaco and in the series, and is looking forward to returning to ‘the jewel in the motorsport crown’, the race every driver especially wants to win, with the Fortec Motorsport team during the world famous Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
Alexander Rossi comments, "Monaco is only race on the WSR calendar to run on an F1 weekend, so it is important for us to put on a good show in front of the fans and Formula 1 teams alike. Monaco is also the highlight of the WSR season and everyone in the Paddock is looking forward to it. In my opinion, the driver who can win the race in Monaco can be looked at as the driver to beat for the rest of the season. This weekend marks the mid-point in the year also and with only one race, we have only one opportunity to score points for the weekend. We’ll be focusing on technical consistency so we can challenge for pole and race wins."
Jamie Dye, Team Manager, Fortec Motorsport, adds, “Alexander has been making his final preparations for the Monaco weekend on the track simulator this week. We are quietly confident entering this race as Alexander was very fast there last year, albeit with another team. Returning to the Principality also makes it a more level playing field for Alexander against the second-year WSR drivers. The Fortec Motorsport team is very excited to get running in a few days time, when we hope to have another successful weekend.”
2011 World Series by Renault round four takes place on May 28th - 29th in Monte-Carlo, in the Principality of Monaco.
