PLYMOUTH are off the mark in the Premier League with their first win of the season coming against Scunthorpe. The Devils, whose only previous success had come in the home leg of a Knockout Cup tie, defeated the Scorpions 51-38 with No.1 Ben Barker scoring another faultless 15-point maximum.Promoter Mike Bowden said: “Ben Barker showed why he has been selected to ride for Great Britain in the forthcoming test matches against Australia.“He and Jesper Kristiansen were outstanding for us, but all the boys contributed points and it was a tremendous boost for us to get our first league win under our belts.”

SOMERSET returned to the top of the Premier League with a home win over Leicester – despite being forced into several team changes.Injuries and international commitments resulted in the Rebels going into the meeting without three of their top five, but they overcame the Lions 53-41 with guests Jason Doyle and Claus Vissing contributing paid-28 points between them.Somerset promoter Debbie Hancock said: “We all know what Doyley is capable of here at the Oak Tree Arena, but to his credit he has done the business for us each time we have called upon his services, as his performance tonight proved. “Claus was just superb, you couldn’t have asked any more of a guest rider than how he rode here tonight for the Rebels.”

FORMER Glasgow skipper Shane Parker will make what could be his last-ever visit to Ashfield on Sunday with Sheffield expected to provide the home side with their toughest test yet.Parker, who will retire at the end of the year, spent six successful seasons with the Scottish club, and co-promoter Alan Dick knows the threat he will pose to Glasgow’s unbeaten home record.Dick said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome Shane back to race at Glasgow even if riding for the other side, and I know that our crowd will come out to see what could be his final appearance at the track depending on fixtures later in the season. “He will lead out a top class team and we will undoubtedly need to be solid throughout our team to take the win. This is the sternest test of our credentials so far and this weekend is shaping up to be very pivotal."
