(SPEEDWAY 1) BERWICK have parted company with No.1 rider Charlie Gjedde and replaced him with Swedish star Sebastian Alden. The Bandits announced the change during Saturday night’s home defeat against Glasgow, a club statement describing Gjedde’s performances as “exceptionally disappointing” with 25-year-old former Swindon rider Alden signed to replace him.Berwick boss Ian Rae said: “Seb is as keen as any rider I’ve spoken to in the last few years to make his new start with Berwick his big chance to achieve success in this country and is delighted to have this opportunity with the Bandits. “He’s a true racer, of the sort the border fans love to cheer on and whilst he will be thrust into the heavy action against Sheffield next week we have every confidence in him to handle things, and once he’s become used to the track, should be a versatile scorer capable of battling with the best.”

(SPEEDWAY 2) GLASGOW secured their third away win of the season with a backs-to-the-wall display for a 46-44 victory at Berwick. The Tigers had Joe Screen (elbow) and Nick Morris (shoulder) struggling with injuries, but James Grieves and guest Matt Wethers turned the meeting around with a dramatic last-heat 5-1.Manager Stewart Dickson said: “This was a very special performance from the team. The way we overcame the absence of Nick and the lesser abilities of Joe due to his injury was quite amazing. “I felt we could win this meeting but to have to do it with only four fit riders was something else.”

(SPEEDWAY 3) STOKE overcame National League leaders Sheffield/Scunthorpe with a 49-41 victory at Loomer Road.Tim Webster (13) and Simon Lambert (11+2) led the way for the Potters, whilst the visitors lost Greg Blair (knee) and Adam Wrathall (shoulder) to injuries during the meeting.Webster said: “It was a very hard fought meeting especially as they have riders like Ashley (Birks), and Steve and Richie (Worrall) racing the in the Premier League but we battled away and thankfully got all three points against the league leaders. “We were disappointed not to get anything on Thursday night and wanted to make amends here for the supporters, and I’m pleased we have done that against a quality side.”  (
