First Podium for Aye Gee Suzuki

Aye Gee Suzuki rider Josh Wainwright secured is first podium at round four of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship at the ultra fast Thruxton Circuit and his team-mate Adam Lyon brought his Suzuki home in 15th place.

The pair both had a good weekend and Josh gained his best ever qualifying position this year with Josh gaining his first front row start for the Aye Gee Team and qualified in fourth place and Adam gaining is second best qualifying this year in 14th.

The weather conditions changed on race day and after dry practice and qualifying sessions the weather turned very bad and the rain came in from 12 noon and rained throughout the day until the Superstock 600 race at 5pm. The rain continued to fall during the race and it was all about steady and mature riding to be able to gain a result and bring the bikes home in one piece.

Josh gained a great start and kept his place into turn one of fourth place but ran wide into the chicane and dropped back to fifth. The conditions were terrible and the riders just had to play with caution in the first few laps, by the third lap Josh got through the third behind Connor Behan and worked his way to second on lap four. Behan made a move on lap 10 of 12 and pushed Josh to third, in a stunning last lap manoeuvre and setting the fastest lap of the race in the process he was able to make a pass on Behan into the final chicane snatching a fantastic second place position.

A delighted Josh said "It's been a great day today I'm over the moon with the result. I knew the race was going to be hard with the conditions and I made a bit of a mistake on the first lap and just had to settle myself down and get myself into a rhythm. I'd like to thank HM Racing for working so hard on the bikes this week and giving us that little bit extra that we needed. The bike felt great and I'm very grateful to Tony Morris for getting the team back on track and hope this will be one of a few podiums for us all, it's been a tough start to the season but hope this is the turn around to it all."

Adam had a steady race but struggled in the wet conditions and after gaining a good start and making it through to 10th place the young Scotsman made a couple of small mistakes mid way through the race which dropped him back through the closely fought pack back to 15th. He said "I'm a little disappointed with the result and wish I could have done better. I was struggling a bit in the wet and out braked myself a couple of times but I managed to stay on and salvage one Championship point. I need to try and find myself some sponsors to enable me to continue the rest of the season so if anyone can help then please let me know. I'd like to thank my Mum and Dad again and onlinetrophies.com and congratulate my team-mate Josh and a great result."
