Teen star Mikkel B Jensen handed Danish SGP wild card

MIKKEL B'S BIG NIGHT

Copenhagen teenager Mikkel B Jensen has been handed a dream ticket into the FIM Dansk Metal Danish Speedway Grand Prix at PARKEN Stadium in Copenhagen on June 11.

The 16-year-old dons the famous No.16 race jacket in his home town and will go head-to-head with the likes of world No.1 Tomasz Gollob, three-time world champion Nicki Pedersen and Danish champion Kenneth Bjerre in the national stadium.

Jensen was given his big break on Denmark's thriving 80cc junior racing scene and began riding a full 500cc bike in 2009, but he has already been earmarked as one of the nation's great hopes for the future.

Jensen has been in outstanding form for Vojens in the Danish Super League this year and is highly-rated by national team boss Anders Secher. Three-time world champion Erik Gundersen is another man who has given the Copenhagen starlet a ringing endorsement.

He said: "After following Mikkel over the last four years and seeing how quickly he has developed, I have no doubt that he is a super talent. The way that Mikkel can handle the bike and focus on the sport suggest that he can achieve his goals."

Jensen will be joined at PARKEN by track reserves Michael Jepsen Jensen and Kenni Arendt Larsen.

Jepsen Jensen, who wears the No.17 race jacket, has also established himself as one of Denmark's rising stars over the past 12 months. He races for Vojens as well and is a regular for Torun in the Polish Ekstraliga and Vargarna in Sweden.

Rider No.18 Larsen competes for Outrup in the Super League and is one of the stars of Coventry's British Elite League team along with Russian Grand Prix racer Emil Sayfutdinov.

Jepsen Jensen and Larsen will take to the shale if any of the main 16 riders are forced to miss rides through injury, illness or other reasons. They will also be called upon if their rivals are disqualified for hitting the tapes or exceeding the two-minute time allowance.

The referee for the Copenhagen showpiece is Krister Gardell from Sweden.
