Quaife back on VLN podium at the Nordschleife

Le Mans Series frontrunner Phil Quaife continued his fantastic foray into the VLN Endurance Series at the Nurburgring Nordschleife last Saturday with a second place finish in the SP10 class.

The Kent-based racer enjoyed a flawless weekend at the notoriously difficult 'Green Hell' in Germany to make it two podiums in as many races alongside co-driver Adam Christodoulou and new addition to the squad Andreas Möntmann.

Starting from second, Quaife belied his inexperience at the 12.93-mile, 150+ turn venue to produce an excellent opening stint that kept his Bonk Motorsport-run, GT4-spec BMW M3 in victory contention. Christodoulou and Möntmann where similarly competitive but a late splash and dash fuel stop would ultimately end their hopes of catching the leading Aston Martin.

Phil Quaife: "It was a great weekend all round so a big thank you to the team, Adam and Andreas. This was only my third visit to the Nordschleife and understandably it's a place that demands experience, so I was delighted with the overall performance and my pace in the race. Because of its length a 90-minute stint only amounts to about eight laps, which isn't many to learn such a demanding circuit! But I definitely feel like I'm making progress so next time I'd like to be pushing for the win.

"From the team's perspective it was a relatively straightforward weekend. The car was competitive from first practice on Friday and ran faultlessly throughout the event. But you can take nothing for granted at the Nordschleife which is notorious for its fast, narrow sections."

Quaife returns to the Nordschleife for round five of the VLN Endurance Series in a fortnight's time, before rejoining his CRS Racing outfit at Imola for the upcoming Le Mans Series/Intercontinental Le Mans Cup event on 1-3 July.
