Alex Lynn has been reinstated to the lead of the Formula Renault UK Championship

His team won an appeal to the National Court of the Motor Sports Council.

Essex racer Lynn had been excluded from his second-place in the second race of the Donington Park round on April 17 over a technical matter. His team, Fortec Motorsport, appealed the exclusion and the decision was reversed by the court.

This means that 17-year-old Lynn, who has won five of the first six races this season, retakes the championship lead by 27 points heading into this weekend’s round at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

“I don’t feel that the matter really affected me,” said Alex. “It was just a team matter and it didn’t change the fact that I just had to concentrate on my driving. But there’s no doubt that the decision has helped our bid for the championship and it makes my life a little bit easier!”

Lynn was also featured in Boy Racers, a half-hour documentary on BBC Radio 4 that aired on Monday morning (May 30) at 11.00am. The programme revolved around the progress of Alex and team-mate Oliver Rowland, a fellow member of the BRDC’s SuperStars scheme, which nurtures Britain’s best young racing talent.
